Default police checks

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help us with our little problem???

We're applying for the skilled independent visa subclass 136, and we've
applied for our police checks from our local police station to attach to
our visa application as we read that you include them with your visa
application in the statement below from the government website:

"Overseas police clearances
You must provide police checks for each country in which you have lived
for 12 months or longer during the past ten (10) years......
Where possible, you should provide an original copy of each of your
police clearances with your application. In some cases, you will not be
able to apply for a police clearance without a letter from the
department. In this case, during the processing of your application we
will send you a letter that you should use to initiate the police
clearance process..."

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-
migration/136/eligibility-character.htm

After applying for our police checks, we then read the information at
the bottom of the checklist, which I have pasted below:

Character (do not apply for police clearances until requested to do so).

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/checklists/136.pdf

So now I assume we've done the wrong thing in applying for the police
clearances now? Can you advise me on whether I should either:
1. wait for the police clearance results to come through and send them
with the visa application or

2. Just send our visa application without the police clearances and
wait for the case officer to request them. ( and if so should I
cancel the police clearances that Ive already sent for and apply
for new ones when Im requested to do so)?

I hope you are able to help me

Thanx

Jadie

I think the police checks are valid for 1 year, and your visa first
entry date will be a year from the date of your police checks/medicals
(which ever is earlier).

So if you can visit Australia and validate your visa (when you get it)
within a year of police check date it should be alright, but if you
can't its probably better to wait for the police check request to give
you a bit more time.

Hope that makes sense! x

Ahh right, I didn't know that the visa first entry date is a year from
the police check date. I think I should be ok to just send the visa
without the police check and then send them the one i've just applied
for, when they ask for it then. But if they take a long time before they
ask for the police check, i'll just scrap the first lot and apply for
some more to give us more time to validate the visa. Although we do want
to get across there as soon as poss.
Thanx for your advice, you've really helped me.
Cheers

Yeah, thats exactly what I'm doing, I've just got a police check but may
get another later depending how long they take to process the visa!

Good luck!! x

I sent my police checks with application in Oct & have been advised by
my CO that they will probably expire before i get to Aus so i have had
to waste another £20 & get another set of checks! Some people seem to
have their visa's granted pretty quickly though so you may be lucky or
you may have to get another like me!

My CO sent me a form like a top copy to send with my PCC.
As long as you have put your case id etc. on your letter i'm sure that
will be fine.
