payment of application fees
I wanted to send my application out before I left town for
vacation, and so could not make it to American Express for a
foreign bank draft. My bank manager suggested that I send a
money order for a larger amount, in US dollars. This is what
I did, but have been having uneasy thoughts about it.
Will they contact me if they are not satisfied with the payment
method? I would be glad to send them a foreign bank draft, now
that I am back and have plenty of time to mull over this! Should
I do it anyhow? My application is still in queue unopened.
TIA. narayan

Re: payment of application fees
I think you did it wrong...someone more knowledgeable than me plz correct me
if I am wrong but,
I think you are supposed to pay at a bank and then use the fees receipt
method. You pay the bank and they stamp your reciept, you keep a copy and
they send the actual money for you...you hafta order fees reciepts from the
Government site, they're free. If you send them money orders or checks or
anything else, they just send it back...
at least it is that way for everything I have done, but I am an inland
applicant...still I think that is their process for everyone...

Re: payment of application fees
If submitted fee is not in the exact amount required at the time of
application receipt then the entire package will be returned without
processing. Your application will be returned if you sent less or more money
than required.

Could I send in a separate envelope my application fees in
the form of a demand draft for the exact amount, and ask them
to ignore the enclosed money order in the application?

actually, i checked the fees schedule, and they allow US dollars
payment. the only problem then is that i overpaid, imagining i was
playing it safe. Could I send them a lesser bank money order for the
400 USD fee the website indicates as the application fees in USD?
Can I have the other money order cancelled by the bank?
thanks for your advice!

Re: payment of application fees
That would not work. Just wait for the package and have a casheir's check
in the correct amount ready to send back with it.

Re: payment of application fees
Nope, nothing will work. Wait for the package to be returned and then
re-submit it with proper fee. More - to prevent possible problems get draft
in Canadian dollars. With current rather volatile currency market fees in US
dollars may change at any moment and if your package reaches Buffalo after
such change you'll be out of luck again.

Re: payment of application fees
correction on this...
If the paid amount is less then only your application
will be returned back to you but if you pay more
money then they send you the check for the difference.
It happened with me.

Re: payment of application fees
Extremely rare occurrence if it would be truth - I would say rather
impossible as visa post cannot write any checks to applicants. More -
Immigration Manual clearly states that application package must be returned
if correct fee is not included. Please read section 8.1 of OP 06.

Re: payment of application fees
Seems that "Singh" just changed his/her/it's name to "duke" but this
action didn't make his/her/it's "advice" any better....
Looks more and more like another reincarnation of that stupid idiot
aikido/NorthernLights/Clint Eastwood etc. ...
