Default Passed my Driving Test!!

Well I finally got around to taking my driving test yesterday and I
passed! I decided to wait until we were married and I had my social
security number in my married name so I could get the license in my new
name straight away, rather than having to change it etc later.

The tests went well, I had to wait around for a while inbetween things
but it was ok I guess. I got 17 out of 20 (85%) for the Georgia law test
, 19 out of 20 (95%) for the signs test and 100% for the driving test,
not sure how I managed that part because my reversing in a straight line
was far from straight lol! I had to do part of the test out on the roads
too but I didn't mind that part, makes more sense to me anyway than
driving around a car park! It's nice to finally have that Georgia
license, maybe the strange looks will stop now when I get carded in
bars! It's just a shame I had to give up my UK license to get it.

Woohoo! Congrats! The test really isn't all that hard...but I know I
was scared when I originally got it too. *LOL* As a matter of fact, I
was to intimidated that I didn't get my license like everyone else as
soon as I turned 16...it took me about a year to get the nerve to
finally get it. And then dirving was a breeze. Only now I haven't driven
in like 3.5 years so it'll probably take me a while to get used to again
once I get a car!

By the way...why did you have to give up your UK license?? That sounds
really weird!! I don't see why you would have to do that?!

LOL! Steve might agree with you at times! Thanks for the congrats!

Steffi - its just Geogia law. Like if someone from Florida moved to
Georgia and wanted to get a Georgia license they would have to surrender
their Florida license. I could have lied and said I didn't have a UK
license and gone once and got a learners pemit and then gone back a
couple weeks later to take the test but it isn't always as straight
forward as that, for a start they look at you like you are crazy if you
say you've never drived and you're 27!! After weighing it all up though,
I decided to just go ahead and surrender it. If we'd gone on a weekend
we'd have been waiting hours and we were there 5 hours altogether
yesterday, and Steve had to take a day off to come with me so it was
easier to just go once and take the test and surrender my old license. I
can use the US license in England if I visit and it's only if we
actually move back to England that I have to worry about getting a UK
license again, and at the moment there's no plans to move back!

Hi Nicola

Firstly congrats!

Also, if you do ever go back to England, I understand you can simply
apply for a new UK Licence, saying you have lost your old one.

No worries then!

That's good then, I wondered about that! I kept the counter part of my
English license and was just going to hand that part in if they asked
about it but they never did!

Yeah they asked for it and then they just never gave it back at the end.
I heard a guy arguing with them too about it and she quite clearly said
you have to surrender your out of State license. Like I said, there are
ways around it but I decided to just go ahead, take the test and
surrender it.

I don't think that should have happened nor should it have been
surrendered. There have been other threads about this in the past and I
don't know that Florida has that authority, but I could be wrong. One is
not supposed to have more than 1 US state license at any time and it is
normal to surrender a state driver's license when becoming licensed in
another state.
