Default Part II of Immigrant Visa Application via London Embassy

What a mess this process is!

I'm an American citizen, living in the UK with my British husband. We want to move to the US so he needs a visa.

We're recently received the approval of our I-130 and just today also received what is supposed to be the instruction pack for the second part of the process. But it's just an awful mess. They've spelled my husband's name wrong and the only instructions that have sent us are for getting a medical interview and a 'finance (e) visa Interview'. He's not a fiance, he's a spouse. In the instructions, there is no mention at all of form DS-230 and the affidavit of support is different as well. It says that we would have six months upon getting the visa to travel to the US and marry. As that's not relevant at all - I have no idea if that is the same time frame we would have to actually move to the US.

When I look online at the most relevant page of instructions for what to do next, it is absolutely rife with contradiction.
Embassy of the U.S. London: Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants Applying for a Visa in London

In one section they tell you to fill out form DS-230 and send it on right away. Then later on they tell you to fill it out and send it with DS-2001 (notification of readiness).

In the letter they sent me - they tell me to arrange the medical exam. On the web page they say:

"Approximately one month before your scheduled interview appointment with a consular officer, you will receive an appointment letter containing the date and time of your visa interview along with instructions for obtaining a medical examination."

And even later, they say:
"The appointment for the visa interview and medical examination will be scheduled on the same day."

How utterly confusing!!

I am writing them a letter at least to point out the name error and to ask to receive the correct instructions, but can anyone point me in the right direction here? Do we send off DS-230 right away or wait until all our papers are in order and then send it with our notice of readiness (DS-2001)? Do we go ahead and arrange the medical exam or is that scheduled by them? And should I wait to do any scheduling until they sort the name out?
