Ann Seiersen

Continuing on with the young Australian couple getting married in Paris in
April next year. Thanks to the great advise received on this ng they're now
getting married here and boarding a plane for Paris the same day with the
intention of having a 'ceremony' in a park somewhere in Paris. Could anyone
give me advise on;

1) Where to do the ceremony, a park or another beautiful spot that you can
recommend

2) Where to go for the wedding dinner, there's only 4 of them. They want
something special but not over the top price wise.

I'm helping them look for accommodation at the moment, they want to stay
somewhere around the 2nd and 4th arrondissement.

The Parc Monceau is nice. But they will need municipal permits, proof
of marriage, and someone willing and able to perform the ceremony, and
perhaps other organizational things as well. They can't just walk into
park and get married.

There are tens of thousands of restaurants in Paris and little consensus
on which are the best. The Guide Michelin for Paris is a good guide,
though.

The Guide Michelin is great for that, too.

I live near there and the Parc Monceau is indeed quite nice, but you might
have to wait in line. On any given Saturday (Sundays I'm not sure) there
are many newly married couples, complete with limos, friends, and
photographers etc. Maybe it's OK if they want to share their happiness with
others in the same situation.

As for restaurants, the choice is indeed vast. A favorite of mine
(notwithstanding the fact I've never been...) is the Jules Verne in the
Eiffel Tower. It has a star in the Michelin, and the setting is about as
Parisian and unique as you can get. It is expensive, but not the most
expensive in the city. Several people I know have been and were quite
happy.

Sure they can. They will already have married in Oz. So they may just want
to take some nice pictures in a nice setting. There is no law against that.

For restaurants, there are many guides, but Jack's guide, idiosyncratic as
it may be, is a good guide to restaurants, I've used it all over France.

For info on a wedding ceremony, you might try the mairie (city hall:
www.paris.fr) of the arrondissment you're interested in doing it in. Their
numbers are widely available, but you can always find them at
www.pagesjaunes.fr. Enter Paris 01, etc. to narrow the Localité to a single
arrondissment. You might also try getting info and help from a wedding
planner, but the closest I can find to that is "agences matrimoniales" which
seems to be more in the line of dating services. Perhaps somebody else can
suggest the proper phrase.

Isn't wedding planner a little overkill for what they need? They'll have
already been married in OZ in a civil ceremony. All they wanted a for their
party of 4 to have a little celebration in Paris.

There are park regulations against it. To hold a ceremony in the park,
it's best to obtain a permit. Taking pictures is not generally
prohibited unless it is obviously commercial and instrusive (reflectors,
lights, a large crew, etc.).

I was thinking more in terms of advice rather than planning a full-blown
wedding.
