Overstayed if current status expired after change of status applied for?

Hello,

I applied for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) on 6-28-00 and have receipt
notice dated 7-1-00 but EAD card was received 11-28-00 but the h1-b status
expired 8-29-00.

Can you tell me if I was out of status from august to november even if the
INS had received my TPS application before h1-b expiration?

As long as you applied before the H-1B expired and before the deadline for
your TPS, you should be fine. However, during the gap time, work was not
authorized.
