Re: Ottawa to speed immigration process
This is NOT good news!
The recent comments in newspapers that Immigration Minister Volpe made about
changes in policy are alarming and will cause an increased burden on our
social system.
Minister Volpe has stated that he will triple the number of parents and
grandparents accepted into Canada over the next two years! Does the minister
not realize that most parents and grandparents will not be working and
contributing to the social safety net through contributions in taxes. For
the first 10 years, the sponsors are responsible to support their parents
and grandparents but after that they can apply for the Old Age Pension,
supplement and welfare!
In my view, we should be allowing sponsorship of brothers, sisters and
children, NOT parents and grandparents. They are the ones who can work and
contribute to our social system.

Re: Ottawa to speed immigration process
You are missing the idea of reuniting family members, which is the overall
goal of this change. There are many people who are separated from their
parents, who are in dire need of support from their children (especially in
their old age). Also, there are many people who have grown up being close
to their parents and grandparents for many years, and being apart from them
for so long causes stress and hardship for both parties. How can you not be
in support of parent and grandparents sponsorship?
I really am glad this is happening. Good luck to all those who are in the
process of family class sponsorship.

Re: Ottawa to speed immigration process
There is nothing wrong with sponsoring parents and grandparents as long as
the sponsors support them for the rest of their lives and NOT for 10 years
only and the situation stands now. Why should they be allowed to draw the
Old Age Pension, Supplement and welfare if in need after 10 years? I myself
have my wife's parents here in Canada and I fully support them but they are
also entitled to social benefits which is wrong in my opinion.

Re: Ottawa to speed immigration process
Anywho, I'm just amazed that they are going to give multiple-entry visas
valid for 5 years to those in the queue for Parental sponsorship. Now that
is action!! But its not fair for those like me, who are waiting for spousal
sponsorships. Why can't they do that for spousal sponsorships that cause
hardship on those involve. I have been waiting 2 years (since I applied) to
be reunited with my wife, and have at countless times asked my MP office to
issue a temporary resident visa to be reunited with her, but every time they
just kept saying you gotta wait, and by applying for a TRV, the issue of
dual intent arises. :(

Re: Ottawa to speed immigration process
Well let words be tranferred to deeds. Nothing alarming, only thing
alarming is waiting. Those who are waiting know it better, parents,
grandparents or even main applicants.
The whole process is in a mess. Why wait for elections or the phobia
of elections???
Do it now and do it right. So no one will call them, wellll
oppurtunistic hypocrats!

Re: Ottawa to speed immigration process
I agree. Whatever the burden on Canada would be to reunite parents with
their children, that is the only humane way to go. Otherwise people
should think about immigrating to other countries. If Canada can not
make (or afford) these things to happen, then make it cristal clear to
the inspiring immigrants from the get-go. I personally would not mind
paying a little bit more taxes to have other people families reunite.

"a little bit more taxes"? wow!!! you must be rich OR you must know how
to cheat the tax system OR you must be welfare recipient OR you must
have mental problems! If you don't belong to anyone of these and you
are paying taxes properly from your earning and if you are one of the
persons with average earning group, then no doubt you will have to walk
naked in the street - 'cuze you'll have no money in your pocket to buy
a simple thong to cover your ass after you pay "a little bit more
taxes"... isn't inhumane to show your ass to your parents?
