Default OT: Taking a cruise to Alaska via Canada and wondering about Travel Docs...

Nanette and I were recently fortunate to have a developer purchase some
property from us and as a celebration we have booked a cruise that
leaves from Vancouver BC Canada to Alaska in May, (Lots of time to
figure out my question). When I booked the ticket the person at the
cruiseline was very specific in asking information for the both of us,
including our countries of birth which lead to the question of if
Nanette's name on her passport was the same as on her greencard. Her
passport issued by the Philippines has her name prior to marriage and
green card has her, "New" married name. So my question is: Does she
have to get:

A) A new passport from the Philippines Consulate, (Is there one
in Seattle)
B) A US passport, (Can she get one being that she is not a citizen, and
merley a permanent resident)
C) Some weird travel document that only this cruiseline is aware of?
D) None of the above, the green card is all that it takes...

Thanks,

Scott

Coincidentally, I just came back from a cruise to Alaska last week. We
went to Glacier Bay and did the Inland Passage thing (Juneau, Skagway,
Ketchikan, Victoria B.C.). I have the passport in maiden name, green
card in married name, and the tickets were in married name. We used
Norwegian Cruise Line departing from Seattle.

On checking in, I showed them my documents. I offered to show them the
marriage certificate, too, but they didn't really want it. They then
made a copy of the GC and the passport's name page, and that was it.

On return, all I showed was my GC. That seemed to be enough. I didn't
get to see them swipe it or anything (they had my husband's American
passport, too).

Hope this helps.

Does she have to get:

A) A new passport from the Philippines Consulate, (Is there one
in Seattle)

She shouldn't need an entirely new passport (unless her current one is
due to expire), but she should be able to have her passport amended to
reflect her new name. The nearest Philippine Consulate to Seattle is in
San Francisco.

I found information on amending a Philippine passport here:

http://www.dfa.gov.ph/consular/passport.htm

However, there doesn't seem to be any information on WHERE to send the
passport to get this done (!), so you might want to do a bit of
digging on that.

B) A US passport, (Can she get one being that she is not a citizen, and
merley a permanent resident)

She is ineligible for a US passport since she is not a US citizen.

C) Some weird travel document that only this cruiseline is aware of?

I doubt it.

D) None of the above, the green card is all that it takes...

Since the cruise line rep you talked to specifically asked if the name
in her passport matched the name on her green card, it wouldn't hurt to
have all your bases covered.
