Old style GC
Hi all,
I have an old style green card, issued to me in 1979 when I was just
four. Since having it issued along with a SSN my father moved us all
over to the uk. That was twenty six years ago. I grew up here not
knwoing I even had a green card or a SSN, i have been over the the
states on many occasions but visa waivered eachtime.
Last week I found out i had a GC and SSN and although it's many many
years old, could I immigrate to the US?
Thanks in advance!!

You are no longer a Permanent Resident of the US as you abandoned your
residence there a very long time ago.
Continue to use the VWP for your visits to the US.
BTW, Pulaski's article outlines the various ways of immigrating
to the US.

Didn't find it but no biggie.
Just going back to my post, I did read an article of some dude in a
similar boat as I and he was talking about trying a different point of
entry i.e. from Mexico. Now I know it sounds desparate but is there ways
around this besides restarting from scratch?

Here's the link: http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Pulaski's_Ways:_How_to_-

If you can prove you did not abandon your PR status after all these
years abroad, you have a chance. You needed to have maintained a US
address, filed US taxes, and in general made the effort to actually
LIVE in the USA. Doesn't sound like you qualify, but you can always
go to the embassy and try for a returning resident visa. All they can
do is say no. Otherwise, you're looking at one of the ways from the
above link.

Quite possibly, but the old green card won't make any difference one
way or the other. You've had no claim to be a USA Permanent Resident
for about 24 years. Having an SSN is less relevant still.

He used a visa waiver to enter. That's evidence right there that he abandoned
the GC.
