Obtaining Australian Police check from USA

Hi,

My wife is on spouse visa for almost 2 years now and we will soon
recieve our checklist to apply for her PR. We married and lived in
melbourne for 1 year and then we moved to USA because I got a job offer
here and we came on E-3 and E-3D visas.

Before leaving Melbourne, I did try to get her Police check but couldnt
get one because it was valid for certian number of months. Now I tried
the australian consulate in USA and they said that i have to contact
victorian authority myself.

I was wondering if anybody have the same situation and tell me how they
got it done?
