Default NYC Drivers Licence and AOS question

Currently undergoing AOS in new york city.

During the summer, I applied for my learners permit at the NYC DMV. I
used my EAD as part of my proof of Id.

When I received the learner permit, it stated across the top "Temporary
Visitor until".. and my EAD expiry date. Since then, I've had my EAD
renewed for another year, but my question is, do I have to get my
learner permit renewed to reflect the new date because of that temp
visitor disclaimer? The actual expire date of the licence isn't for
another several years.

TIA

Yes, becuase your license is only good until the date stated in the big
red letters. The license is valid until the expirationd date, but you
have the TEMPORARY VISITOR restriction which needs to be renewed
everytime you get a new EAD to extend the validity. And since we live
in NYC, it might be severl times! =-(

Gah, do they charge you again for the renewal/reissue of the licence?

I'm not necessarily convinced that is the case. When I got my licence
it had the temporary visitor expiration date on, as well as the regular
expiry date which is in 2007.

A friend of Wendy's who is a NYC cop told me the temporary visitor thing
is to help the NYPD catch illegal immigrants - the licence is actually
good until the 2007 date. As long as you have other proof of status on
you (i.e. a renewed EAD) after the temporary visitor expiry date then
you should be fine.

Nathan, good to hear from you - hope all is well with you,

Cheers

Peter

Peter I had a feeling that'd be the case, aslong as I had a
renewal to show, which I have. Would be good to save pumping an extra
$40+ into the system every year

I'm good Pete, as I hope you are. Work has been keeping me plenty
busy, hence the diminished posting here Hope all's progressing
slickly for you too.
