Hi,
I have posted this message for several days, but I have not got any response yet. Does no one have any ideas how long the background will take for my I-485?
I had my interview this Feb. Everything went well. And I had my I-130 approved on March (My husband was born in U.S.) But I have not heard anything about I-485 since then. I called the USCIS every month since Aug. and I got a letter from USCIS finally on Oct. It said the investigation into my background remains open. Contact them if I still haven't receive any notice in 6 months.
So how long do I still have to wait? Does it common for US marriage based Visa to have a background check? What do they do on my background check?
Any comments, ideas, please advise.

Every case is unique an different in its own way. Some people wait
only a few months some people wait years. Personally I had my
interview in May an I am STILL waiting for my background check to
comeback. However my friend was interviewed last month an approved on
the spot. They check your background for anything that could result in
a denial of your i-485. As for exactly what they look for I don't know
but things like a criminal history/convictions is part of it.

From what I have heard it can be as fast as one month or as slow as a year...depending on where you from ...its an interpol... they are doing background check world wide and it doesnt help too if your name is too common. Got my background check done in a month. I have my Biometric August 26 and had my Interview Sept 29, the same day I got my approval and my background check was done according to the Interviwer few days before my interview sched.

To paraphrase a well-known lawyer in this group: Yes, approximately.

If you take your submission date of the I-485, count the number of days
until you get your GC, then your background check took some number of days
LESS than that.

That's about all anyone can ACCURATELY tell you.

Wild guesses? Sure.

Rules of Thumb? Maybe.

You don't give a lot of details - what is your citizenship, place of birth,
etc? Background checks can vary SUBSTANTIALLY based on such details.
