Default Nice hotels in Santa Monica area

I am planning to visit Los Angeles in July 2004.

Can anyone recommend some good hotels in the Santa Monica area that are
reasonably priced?

Many thanks
John

As some of the nicer hotels are beachfront a reasonable price could
still be a lot of dollars.

What price range did you have in mind ?

Hotels in Santa Monica are expensive compared to other areas. Two more
reasonable and nice hotels which I have stayed in are the Holiday Inn
at the beach and the very small Travelodge which is set back just a
little from the ocean. I found this by chance and was pleasantly
surprised by the quality, location and room rate. Santa Monica is a
brilliant city to visit - I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

As a Venetian, I think I know a little about our neighbor
to the north ):

LA is an expensive city for hotels anyways and SM is
amongst the most expensive parts of LA county...

There are two ; both are quite far from the beach.

I forget the name of the motel right on Main St.
in the most interesting and lively part of SM...there
are still a couple of relatively cheaper places on
Ocean Ave. amidst the super-expensive hotels...
