Default Need Advice on EAD

I filed for EAD, I485 and 140 with Vermont Service Center in January of
2003. My I140 petition filed concurrently got approved in November 2003
while the EAD application is still pending. I went to the NYC district
office after 90 days ( I actually went after six months as I was not aware
that such an option exist), camped out the night before, and got the Interim
EAD. But now I am getting nervous as to why the I765 is not getting
approved. VSC asked for the proof of Special Registration back in September.
I sent the requested documents and according to the Online Status Check
system, VSC received the documents on September 15th 2003. Since than, I
have not heard from them. When I called the Customer Service 800 number, I
was told that I will be notified by mail as to what is happening with my
case. Its been more than a month now and still not word.

Ironically, my wife who is a beneficiary of my petition, received her EAD in
May of 2003.

Now my attorney is suggesting that we should start the application process
for the renewal of EADs now. My EAD expires in July and my wife's expire in
May of 2004. The attorney is saying that we should do an application to
extend my EAD despite what the on-line update says. She is also asking for
$500.00 for her services.

My questions:

1. Should I do the renewal of EADs my self or is it worth spending the
$500.00? I am leaning to get attorney's help for my application and do the
wife's application myself.

2. What should I do with the I765 application pending with VSC?

Sorry for the long email but I needed to explain.

Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I agree with you.

Let it pend. It may be approved in a month, or a year, or never. One hopes
that you never have to depend on its approval.

You can AFAIK do the renewal online ($120). At least that is how I
did and it was much quicker... as in fill out the info and pay on sunday
and then call on monday to set an appointment to have picture taken on
wednesday. Just make sure you have all the info the online form asks
for.
