Default N400 and Speeding tickets

All,
Whats the deal with people talking about speeding tickets and
applying for an N400. I am applying for my N400 and have had speeding
tickets but not in the last three years. I believe my DMV record should
show clear? Can someone tell me what the point is ?

Thanks ACE

This question is a
common source of hysteria. Simply declare all of your speeding offences,
no matter how old they are.

The reason it is a point of hysteria is
because there are claims that having too many speeding tickets can be
construed as moral turpitude. I have not yet heard of a case where
anyone was denied citizenship on the grounds of speeding tickets.

The
flip side is that if you do not declare your speeding offences, then you
could be denied citizenship and deported.

It is just something
you think about during or after submitting the application and then
wonder if you did the right thing because lying to the INS (BCIS) is
enough for them to deny your application or deport you and it is easier
to ask others than try to get an answer from officials. It just alarms
applicants that they may have done the wrong thing.
