Default My husband got his visa in Egypt!

Salam, Hello. My husband received his visa finally! The process took 7
months from start to finish including the security
clearance/administrative processing that occurred after his interview.
Below I will post a timeline so that other applicants who do DCF in the
future or who are waiting for their visas from the Consulate in Egypt
can get an idea of how the process went for my husband and I.

Summer
2002- We met in Egypt.

Dec. 2002- Visited Egypt once more.

Summer 2003-
Married in Cairo and mailed Petition (I-130) with supporting documents
to the consulate.

Summer 2003- Received email from the consulate
stating they are processing our application and that they are delayed
because of a staff shortage and that our interview will probably be
scheduled in Dec 2003.

September 2003- Husband gets a call from the consulate-
they tell him they scheduled his interview for late October 2003. We got
the interview much earlier than we thought. Since we did DCF I had to
attend the interview with him in Egypt which I was prepared for.

-
Husband sent medical results, military paper, police paper, Affidavit of
Support, and DS230 immigrant visa application to the consulate.

October 2003- Interview Day. Was very easy. They asked us same
questions separately. No more than 5 minutes each. Consular Officer said
everything is fine. His said the visa will be mailed in 1 week if they
don't need to "send his name to Washington" which can take "up to 3
months". He could not find out at the moment if he needed a security
check b/c his computer was down at the moment.

Next day- we are told he
needs fingerprints and has to pay $85.
He had the fingerprints. They
just tell us they need this because of a name match on their system and
just tell us to wait. My husband has a very common Muslim name.

Nov.
2003-Fingerprints are cleared by the FBI. Took exactly one month.

Dec.2003-
Consulate says that although fingerprints were cleared he still needs to
wait for clearance from the Dept. of State in Washington. Said it can
take "6-8 weeks or significantly longer".

Dec. 2003- Called Dept of
State and spoke to a Visa Services Rep. She said my husband is waiting
for a "security advisory opinion" and that it can take anywhere from "2
months to 1 year and a half". Asked her if they only do this b/c he is
Arab. She said no that "they do it to Chinese, Russians and everyone".
She also said that because he is applying as an immigrant it may take
longer.

Mid Dec. 2003- Sent fax to FBI to check on status. Recieved
reply by fax in Jan. stating application is pending. No more info.

Dec03/Jan04-
Vacation in Egypt with husband.

Jan.2004- Sent another fax mid Jan.
Received email from David Hardy of the FBI stating application is
pending. No more info.

Late Jan.2004- My husband said consulate
called him and asked him if he has ever traveled outside Egypt and if he
has ever gotten in trouble with the police. He said no which is the
truth. They just told him he has to wait for the security clearance. He
said they were polite. It may have been a routine procedure.

Feb. 5-
Emailed Consulate in late Jan. Told them that we have waited 3 months
after the interview and asked them if they can kindly let us know when
we should expect to hear a decision. On Feb 5th reply stated that my
husband's case is undergoing "administrative process" and that they will
finish this in 2 weeks.

One week later....Feb. 5th- husband receives
call. Visa is ready and will be mailed via TNT!

My husband will be
arriving in New York early March inshallah!

I hope this info. was
helpful to Khadijah and Heba and anyone applying for the visa in Egypt
or undergoing sec. check/adm. processing.

Let me know if you have
questions.

Alf Mabrouk!

Thats great to hear they're actually moving in that
consulate. I can't say I know exactly what you've been through, but I
know how the wait is and how long things take to get done at Cairo.

Congrats.

Heba & Khadija, your husbands' can't be far behind. Good
luck.
