Mr. Humpries, Experts, Plz Advice (Citizenship)
I have written the following 8-9 Months ago
"""Hello, I hope someone can solve my problem here.
I am about to apply for citizenship next month, I have been here for 4 years
(2 on student visa and 2 as permanent residence).I get half time when I was
here as student which makes it 3 years
Now, when I was a student, I traveled to USA for 5 days (Left Canada on 27th
August,2000 and returned on 2nd Septmber 2000 via quebec in car). However,
the Immigration officer stamped my passport as 2nd September, 2001.
Now meanwhile, I went back to home country for 11 days, came back on 11
Jan,2001. Got maried in May, 2001 in canada and went for honeymoon to US for
7 days-returned on June 8, 2001.
Now when I recieve my citizenship interview, I have heard they cross check
passport stamps and if they come across the WRONG stamp, they are bound to
ask me what was that.
The stamp also has few numbers on it, now if I tell them it is immigration
officers mistake, can they cross-check with the numbers or there is no way
to tell.
In addition, my scenario is that they ask me when did I go to US, as
according to the WRONG date I came back to canada on 2nd Sep,2001. Now I was
in US from June 2nd-June 8th, 2001 for my honeymoon so that means to come
back in Canada (on sept 2, 2001) I must have gone to US obviously (Can be
only USA as the stamp I have is only possible if I enter quebec from USA),
now there is no stamp me going to US between June 8th and 2nd Sep, 2001.
Also, I have many arrival/departure stamps and will be like a puzzle for me
to explain everything. What should I do? Call CIC, or perhaps make up a lie
and put on my form that I traveled for a day to US in sep 2001 (but there is
no stamp suggesting that-i., going to US), should I lie to cover their
mistake
I have 3 passports attached together, the recent one has just 2-3 stamps and
the WRONG stamp is in previous passport, I have been told many times that I
don't need to carry all but just the one which is valid i.e, the most
recent. I am wondering if I am required to take all 3 or just go quietly
with the most recent one, althought my in-out of canada is in recent as well
the old passport"""
__________________________________________________ ______________
The Time has come, I have my citizenship test on May 2nd. The Letter I
recieved states I have to bring in Current and Expired Passports (whatever
in my possession)
As you can see Gentleman from the above explanation, I am in dilemma.
I also confirmed with Immigration CSR, she said, if you dont have expired
passports its fine, and if you do and for the above problem just show proof
that you were in Canada for that Period
I have
1) Credit Card Statement (Just one Company) for that period (Aug, 2000-Oct
2001)
2) Grade sheets from my College (few showing fees)
I have Tax Paper reciept too (But I didnt file in that year, filed last year
for 2001-2004 together
I will goto my school for more proof and asking for a lettter stating that I
was in Canada in that period
Will also try and call old apartment bulding
My question is, are items 1 and 2 in my possession enough? incl Tax reciept
I know I shouldn't lie but would it be good not to show expired passports to
avoid this confusion, I am worried they might ask me more papers and if I am
not able to get them
During the test, will I get a chance to speak to an officer and explain
him/her
Also, what happens if someone really has no expired passports with them, coz
if they check my days outside canada, this could be good as I know I am not
lying
is it possible to tell from the stamp (has few numbers ) that it belonged to
year 2000, and not 2001
Last but not least, out of my time outside of Canada the big one was 45 days
and is in my current passport and the problem for which I am worried abt is
abt 5 days which was during my student time (as we get half time befre PR)
So please, please advice me
Should I avoid taking expired passport
Tell the truth and show whatever documents I have

Re: Mr. Humpries, Experts, Plz Advice (Citizenship)
You need to show other evidence of being in Canada in periods claimed -
school attendance or employment record, credit and debit card statements
showing their usage in Canada in claimed days, your utility bills, etc..

Re: Mr. Humpries, Experts, Plz Advice (Citizenship)
Thanx Mr. Miller
Claimed days? - The days I was in Canada
I am little confused, will they ask for them anyways, or I have to show them
myself
As for the problem perriod, I only have gradesheet from College, Credit Card
Statement of 1 Company, Debit card (bank said, will provide only if
Citizenship asked for it)
I just had phone bills
No employment, as I wasn't allowed to work outside campus
or should I just NOT take the expired passport (or that doesn't matter),
they might ask proof anyways
The thing is I am more worried to gather old documents from different places
P.S I had a certified true copy of Landing paper and then got PR Card, I
can't seem to find Landing Paper (is that a problem)?
thanx

Re: Mr. Humpries, Experts, Plz Advice (Citizenship)
Take the passport with you, not taking it may create more problems.
Your school attendance record for the period prior to landing when you were
in school should be enough. But for the period after landing if you were not
attending school anymore you will have to show employment record, utility
bills (not just a cell phone bill) and credit/bank card statements showing
their usage in Canada.
You need original of your landing document - if you can't find it then you
must immediately contact CIC and obtain certified copy of it from them.
