I was wondering if someone could explain this exerpt from the guide to
sponsorship to me. The way it reads is that there are exceptions to
having to have the required funds shown in a bank account. The reason
I am asking is that at this point my husband (who is a natural
Canadian citizen) and I do not have a nest egg of that size because of
a lot of reasons but we are both gainfully employed (I am a US citizen
and am in the US still). He has a 60k plus a year job and can
definitely support our family. SO... my point is- if there is a way to
qualify as a sponsor without having to show the 12k+ bank balance.

"you have an income that is at least equal to the minimum necessary
income, the amount of which is published yearly by the Canadian
government. You will have to provide us with documents that show your
financial resources for the past 12 months and prove you are
financially able to sponsor members of the family class. You may
solicit the help of a co-signer (must be your spouse or common-law
partner). If you reside in Quebec, see also Sponsors living in Quebec.
This condition does not apply if you are sponsoring only
· your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has no dependent
children, or
· your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner whose dependent children
have no
children of their own, or
· your dependent child who has no children of his or her own."

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated as I am quickly becoming
overwhelmed. We have been married for almost 2months and we are no
closer to finding a way for us to be together sooner rather than later.

Since I assume that he is only sponsoring you, he doesn't need to meet the
Low Income Figure.

Actually he is sponsoring my daughter and I. While I appreciate your
help there is no need to be rude. If I was sure of what i read, I
wouldnt be asking for clarification.

The Low Income cutoff figure is based on salary, not savings and is not a
requirement for family class spousal applications, the sponsor cannot be on
public assistance except for disability. Your sponsor has to submit the
financial evaluation

I can undertand your frustration and worries. I know from my own
experience that it's somewhat overwhelming. I'm no immigation
professional but I've been through this myself so I know a little about
how it works.

I presume your husband is sponsoring you under the family class? If so,
unless I'm very much mistaken (I was sponsored the same way by my spouse)
you do not have to have a 12k nest egg. At no time during the process was
my spouse asked for any statement of financial funds. However, she did
have to provide proof of her earnings. If you check out the family
sponsorship conditions at:

You will notice that the only financial requirement listed is:

"you have an income that is at least equal to the minimum necessary
income, the amount of which is published yearly by the Canadian
government."

According to the chart at:

The low income cut off figure for someone to sponsor two family members
(you and your daughter) is $25,867. Your husband's salary is well above
this figure.

If you want clarification of this maybe your husband should arrange an
appointment with an immigration lawyer or consultant in Canada. He/she
will be able to confirm the details and help to put your mind at rest. A
one off appointment shouldn't cost very much and would be worth it for
your peace of mind.
