Default Melbourne: Apartment Rental advice

Hi
I posted to this group before XMas but back then I wasn't 100% sure of
my plans. At the moment I am living in Japan but I am coming to
Melbourne in November with my girlfriend on working holiday visa's.

Most of the threads on this group are advice about buying properties
but I would like some advice on rental properties. If possible, could
anyone give me a list of reasonably priced (AUD110-150pw) areas within
1 hour commute to CBD(also, girlfriend would like to live near the
sea)? The only place I know anything about is St Kilda's but it seems
a little expensive for people on working holiday visa's. Plus my
girlfriends English school fees are AUD5000!!!(Any advice on that
would be appreciated too).

Also, how much would it cost to furnish a 1 bed apartment cheaply? I
was looking at furnished places but they all seem to be over AUD200 a
week(St Kilda's), and I'm not gone on the flowery curtain and 70's
carpet look that they all seem to have going on. Nice unfurnished
place's start at AUD150(St Kilda's), so is it possible to furnish a
place for 52 * AUD50 = AUD2600?

Already drinking my VB on a regular basis and had my first Aussie beef
at a BBQ on Sunday(delicious) so I'm practically there already:-).
Looking forward to November

Thanx in advance
Paul
