fiance visa for the UK is quick and easy, get it in a day at a
consulate, or a few weeks by mail....but I do think that you need to be
in the UK for 6 weeks to get a marriage license....but then again, they
might have removed that requirement with the requirement of getting the
fiance visa.....haven't checked.

Yes they did but I also was adviced to ask on this "thread" which I didn't
know about. Your advice is greatly appreciated and I have printed it off to
send to my mum. All these different form numbers etc is a bit baffling to me
so needed to get my head around that.Once again thank you.

Rene - mum went to the states just to visit for 6 months. She has known the
gentleman for a while having met him last year (is a relative of a long time-
friend of the family ); they have been corresponding; he came over for a
short break earlier this year and invited mum over to the states for a few
months, aiming to spend the winter in Florida with the rest of the family,
whom mum knows well. apparently they have got on swimmingly, because he has
now proposed much to all our surprise! I sure it wasn't her intent originally
but obviously things have blossomed. Does this make much difference. I do
find all this very confusing - nothing seems straight forward.

Your mum and her fiance should take the time and money to have at least
a 1-time consultation with an immigration attorney. It will really help
get the process clear in their minds (and yours, when they explain it to
you). The attorney can give them all their options and tell them what
paperwork needs to be filed. A 1-time consultation shouldn't be more
than $100 or so...affordable and very much worthwhile.

Hi,

I don't have anything to add to the advice you've already received--Just
wanted to say hello because I live in Nashville. It's a great city to call
home, and I hope your mother will enjoy it here.

Hi Rene

Thanks for your advice - passing this all over to mum - unfortunately by post
though - they don't have a computer in the house where she is - and mum
wouldn't know how to put it on, bless!
Once again - many thanks

Trish
