Citizenship Agency Lost 111,000 Files

By Spencer S. Hsu
Wednesday, November 29, 2006; Page A21

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has lost track of 111,000
files in 14 of the agency's busiest district offices and processed as
many as 30,000 citizenship applications last year without the necessary
files, congressional investigators reported yesterday.

"janadeen",

You said it. I don't think it bodes well, and the oversight will be to
delay all petitions while everything is more closely examined. It has always
made me wonder why after over 20 years military service that USCIS would
still think I am trying with endless paperwork to smuggle in a deep-cover
terrorist (no, not my wife, maybe my 7-year old stepdaughter).

Wasn't there also an event of many of the key USCIS systems going down
from a virus infection (that the complete story was never told) or something
too? One news article
(http://news.com.com/2102-7348_3-5995...=st.util.print) blames what
I think was the same incident more on underpowered computers that USCIS
operates. What is being done for an end remedy that governmental
representatives can push through (during this last campaign I talked with
the staff of one of my Representatives up for reelection about funding the
Service Centers instead of just thinking of border fences; The idea is if a
legal avenue to reward those that follow the rules is quicker then it will
ultimately reduce undocumented migrants)?

I could be mistaken but - I think I've been hearing about aging/outdated
computer problems at the INS/BCIS/USCIS since I was a teenager!

Either way - all too sad. Not to mention scary. What with all the 9/11
talk and Patriot Act and such, seems we've now given a highly probable
terrorist, US CITIZENSHIP!

Oi!

Sadly - that MIGHT just be a safe bet!
