Default London Embassy operator-assisted helpline

The US Embassy London website lists a phone number - 09055-444-546
(which is actually a call centre located in Glasgow and accessible only
from within the UK) - for "live" operator-assisted Visa information. A
few minutes ago, I decided to give them a ring to see if they had
anything about us in their system, since I haven't received any replies
to my e-mails to the Embassy.

The first time I called, I told the operator that we were locals in
London who were doing DCF (CR1 Visa) and that our I-130 had been
approved a few weeks ago; I asked if she could please check her system
to see if we had been assigned a case number yet.

She said, "Right, then that would have gone through NVC in America,"
and I said, "No, we are UK residents applying for a CR1 Immigrant Visa
via DCF, our case does not go to America," and she replied, "Right,
what's the surname?" I gave her the information, she punched it in and
said, "No, there's nothing in our database."

After I hung up, I thought to myself that she didn't sound very
confident and she obviously didn't know what DCF was, so I thought I'd
try a second time. I rang the number again and this time got JIM (whom I
believe I've spoken to before) and he's very knowledgable and helpful
and friendly He knew exactly what DCF was and he punched in our surname
and my husband's date of birth (since we have a very common last name)
and lo and behold, we have a case number!! He read me the number and
then he punched it in and told me that our case was updated yesterday
and, although the system doesn't tell him WHAT form of update it was, it
does mean that SOMETHING is happening, so we're hopeful that maybe our
Packet 3 and/or Packet 4 is on the way!!

The purpose of my post is to advise anyone who contacts the Embassy's
operator-assisted phone line to always get a second opinion if you are
not satisfied with the first response.

I've heard no good things about the London Embassy's helpline. Skip
calling & just use email. I've heard nothing but good things about
their email-help.

(Only reason we TRIED the helpline is cuz their email was down or
something for a couple of wks.)

hi all,

I, too, have had bad experiences with - what was previously described to
me as the "Mis-information" line.

I called back in July and was told by one lady that being married I must
DCF a I-129F & G325 to London, and then wait. This is did, and also got
the Visa Delivery Service to collect etc. Imagine how gutted I was, 3
days later when I received all my package back with a note telling me to
file the 129F in Chicago!!

At this point, however, I found salvation on this website and was guided
in the right direction. I did call back on the Mis-information line to
check what I had previously been told and was told that the 129 was not
the right application, no apology for the £10-£15 wasted on talking to a
mis-informing member or 2 of their team, not to mention that I now have
to change my flight back from Xmas day to sometime late Jan / early Feb.

My wife, who will be pregnant 6 months on Xmas day when she now has to
fly on her own, and we must be apart for an important time, late on in
our first pregnancy.

OK, stop the violins....

How can they get away with misleading so many?

So I tried to call and find out my application ref, no luck. I have now
e-mailed them to fin out the application reference. probably a little
premature right now, but I wanted to get it to go on the DS-230 form to
help it get matched to my I-130 etc.

I've mailed my DS-230 to the embassy, special delivery and it has been
received, so just the DS2001 to mail once I have the Affidavid and the
Police Certificate done.

Is it worth mailing the DS2001 yet before I get the Police Certificate
in the mail? Can it hurt at such an early stage for them to have all
"readiness" paperwork there. The reason I ask is that I was planning to
fly on Xmas day, now my wife has to fly back a month ahead of schedule
due family illness, anyone rate my chances of having all interviews /
processing happening before Xmas day?

I'm gonna change the flight during the next few days to late January.
I'm just gutted about having to miss so much of my wife, and weeks 21-30
of our first pregnancy and being the first person (other than her) to
feel the baby move etc!!

No point in taking costly chances, right?

Thanks

Berthman

The only thing is that I would worry about papers getting seperated if
you sent some stuff to them but not all.
