The US Embassy London website lists a phone number - 09055-444-546
(which is actually a call centre located in Glasgow and accessible only
from within the UK) - for "live" operator-assisted Visa information. A
few minutes ago, I decided to give them a ring to see if they had
anything about us in their system, since I haven't received any replies
to my e-mails to the Embassy.
The first time I called, I told the operator that we were locals in
London who were doing DCF (CR1 Visa) and that our I-130 had been
approved a few weeks ago; I asked if she could please check her system
to see if we had been assigned a case number yet.
She said, "Right, then that would have gone through NVC in America,"
and I said, "No, we are UK residents applying for a CR1 Immigrant Visa
via DCF, our case does not go to America," and she replied, "Right,
what's the surname?" I gave her the information, she punched it in and
said, "No, there's nothing in our database."
After I hung up, I thought to myself that she didn't sound very
confident and she obviously didn't know what DCF was, so I thought I'd
try a second time. I rang the number again and this time got JIM (whom I
believe I've spoken to before) and he's very knowledgable and helpful
and friendly He knew exactly what DCF was and he punched in our surname
and my husband's date of birth (since we have a very common last name)
and lo and behold, we have a case number!! He read me the number and
then he punched it in and told me that our case was updated yesterday
and, although the system doesn't tell him WHAT form of update it was, it
does mean that SOMETHING is happening, so we're hopeful that maybe our
Packet 3 and/or Packet 4 is on the way!!
The purpose of my post is to advise anyone who contacts the Embassy's
operator-assisted phone line to always get a second opinion if you are
not satisfied with the first response.
