Default Landing question please help Andrew Miller/Jim Humphries/Others

I have got my PR Visa and planning to land through Detroit sometime
beginning of May and come back to USA next week. I will finally move
to Canada end of this year after I am done with my MS.

According to CIC,
"On December 31, 2003, the permanent resident card became the proof of
status document required by permanent residents seeking to re-enter
Canada on a commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train or bus)."

My question is if some reason they don't send my PR card to the
address that I am going to give them on port of entry and require me
to pick up that from their office (I believe, sometime this is the
case), is there any way to enter Canada again from USA? If yes, do I
have to apply for travel document or simply can I enter by showing
them my PR visa? Any comment is greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

you can drive in your own car, go inside the CIC office and they can verify
that you are a PR and let you in...its just longer but possible....my
landing officer told me this..

As long as you don't try to enter Canada by airplane, boat, train or
bus, you'll be fine.
