Default Landing Experience

Folks --

Here are my details
Sept 26, 2001 Sent the forms with the money
Sept xx, 2002 Interview Waived and medicals
Nov xx, 2002 did the medicals but resulted in further tests (results
were not clear)
Aug xx, 2003 completed the medicals
Oct xx, 2003 request for Passport from Buffalo
Oct xx, 2003 got the Passport back Buffalo with Immigrant visa
Dec 14, 2003 - Deadline to land

We landed in Toronto Pearson Intl Airport on Dec 13th. The immigration
officer in the counter took the customs forms and crossed it out. He
asked if we had goods to follow and we said yes. He said thats all he
wanted to know. Then we went to the CIC offices and met with a lady
immigration officer. She was very reticent. She asked for the address
which we gave and then she asked for the proof of funds. I told her
10K USD and she didnt even ask to show it. Then she took pictures and
then we were done.

Next went to a booth where we were given forms for Ontario health and
SIN applications.

Next we went to customs and at that point I only had a very rough list
of goods to follow. They required a very detailed list that includes
model, serial number (to the last details). The African Canadian
customs officer was incredibly friendly and she even gave directions
to the place where we wanted to go.

Then we went to Downtown, check out Eaton Center (it was pretty
awesome) and got dinner in a real nice Indian restaurant (in Queens
St) Babur and then retired. During this process I got totally ripped
off with parking. I couldnt find no parking on the streets. The
cheaper spots were far from the happening place and to walk in cold
weather - not worth it! I ended up shelling $26 canadian JUST for
parking. The taxes on the stuff I bought - incredible. One thing I got
was $57 and after taxes it was $74. There was GST, PST, and one more.
Its crazy, I guess you need a job that pays atleast 100K to lead a
decent life.

So the entire process was a breeze! No sweat. I only wish the
employers were so considerate to the smart folks immigrating to Canada
and not harry them with this so called "Canadian" experience. I am
looking for a job softly from the US and I am not finding it very
encouraging. I just wish Canada starts forging in terms of economy
else living comfortably in Canada will be some thing very hard to
people who come to Canada with a dream of living comfortably.

Thanks, vk

Hey, I appreciate your question and curiosity, BUT tell us all honestly
DOES it really matter to intelligent people if they take picture, dont
take one, take it from the left or upside down.

Can we please keep this forum for intelligent info sharing.

Sorry, no hard feelings.

SIngh

Is that true?

In the spirit of keeping this forum intelligent, I will just say for
most of the people they take pics for their smart faces. Think before
you write questions. Ever thought why that gentleman never replied ?

If you do not have answer, just please shut up!
