cancel my L1 visa. The details of my situation can be seen below.

My fiancee has transferred to the USA on a L1b visa (for three years), I
have also been given an L1b visa from my company which has not been
validated since the job fell through at the last minute. I have come
over on a waiver visa to be with my fiancee but have to go home since my
three months expires. We are planning to marry in more than a years
time, so I cannot get an L2 visa. I wish to stay with him in the US and
also wish to work since I am a specialised engineer and am worried about
never being able to work again if I stay unemployed for too long. I do
not know what I should do, or if there is someone I can talk to for
advice. For example can I go to the US embassy in London to ask them
questions.

If you wish to
work as an engineer, probably the proper immigration option would be an
H-1B. However, you would need a job opportunity from a US company and
you need to be careful because the H-1B cap is approaching fast.
You
obviously cannot work on the VWP or a B-1/B-2 visa, so you need to look
at work status options. the most common are the H-1B and the L-1,
although there are others they may fit your situation (E-1 or E-2?)
For
more infromation on these categories and your options, feel to read up
on them at our web site www.srwlawyers.com
Unless you want
to start your own business or are transferred from an existing business,
you most liley need to find a job offer in the US. (Be mindful of the
H-1B cap though)
