Default K3 Approved May 11th from VSC

Hi Everyone!

I haven't been on this newsgroup for some time, but there was some
news that might be of interest to those on the group.

My K-3 application was approved on May 11th, I originally submitted it
on September 30th and got an RFE I believe on December 24th(I am
traveling so I don't have my papers with me). So I expect those who
have RFE's from early January might be next in line! If others have
already gotten appovals past this time, then it only confirms my
theory that they used my file to stabilize the wobbly table in the
break room all this time and only reluctantly took it out last week
when some other file of a better thickness came in.

The K3 approval is only academic interest to me, as my I-129F (the
green card one if I got the wrong form name) petition was approved
last month. I am in the process of sending in the I-864 (my wife has
to sign tax release forms and other junk, and the back and forth mail
is about 20 days total).

I don't know what will happen with K3 vs I-129F, I suspect they will
toss it out in the NVC, but it will help us, at least, in getting a
visa of some kind for my wife's daughter. I hope!

Hope all is well!

-Derrick

The I-129F is the K3 petition. The I-130 is the 'green card' petition.

I assume you wife is the alien. The daughter could qualify for a
derivative K4 visa, based on the K3, but if you go with the immigrant
visa for your wife there will be no derivative visa for the daughter.
You will have to file another I-130 for your step-daughter from
scratch.

The I-130 arriving at the consulate kills any K visa in the works, so
you'd better let NVC know not to send it if you want to use the K3
instead.
