Default K-1 to I-751...waiting, waiting!

My wife arrived on a K-1 in November of 1999. We married in December of
1999. She got conditional green card status in August of 2001. In May of
last year, we sent in the form I-751 for removal of conditional status. In
June of last year, we got a notice of action from the Texas Service Center,
saying her green card was extended for twelve months. It also said to
contact them if we hadn't heard anything in six months. Well, we haven't
heard anything. I tried calling the old number they gave for TSC and I got
re-directed to the 800 number in Washington where they don't know much.
What they told me is that TSC is now working on I-751 applications from
January of 2003 (!). Are other people having the same experience? I asked
what would happen if a year passed and the extension expired and was told
we would have to apply for a new extension at our local BCIS office here in
Atlanta. All of this seems even worse than it was when we applied for
conditional green card status. Anybody have any insight? Or different
experiences?

Well you are not alone waiting for action on your I-751. Been waiting for
close to 12 months next month, got the same responses like you got
contacting the 1-800-number. The last report I have seen is that they are
working on 02/04/03 applications as of 01/15/04, which means that they are
moving. From what I have learnt dealing with INS/BCIS/USCIS I do not know
what they call themselves now is try to be patient. They will get to your
application, have you tried contacting your area representative/senator.
They will try and help you find out what the status of your petition,
atleast that is what I have done since there is no other way to check.

Good luck.

I applied for I-751 in December 2002, got an extension on my Alien card for
a year, which of course expired before I got anything from INS. I personally
went to the office and got a stamp in my passport for another year
extension, which expired on 1/9/04. I had my N-400 interview on 1/22/04,
which I passed. Today, I got a call!! from my interview Officer asking me
for additional evidence because of my Conditional status. I guess that will
take care of the I-751. Keep your hopes up!
