Default Is it wise to contact your CO

Hi
Been looking on this site for the last few months.Could anyone tell me
if I should be worried about contacting my CO regarding my spouse
visa.My time line so far is

Posted application 4/08/2006
Email received 6/08 requesting medicals and form 80
Medicals done 7/09
Still waiting am I worrying about nothing as I understand spouse visa
are quite quick

I'm not sure but our agent emailed our CO Monday and we got the grant
letter today so sometimes I think it can be worth a go if all the docs
have been with them for a while. I think you just don't need to do it
too often.

My situation might be different, because I applied inside Australia. But
in my case, I had called my CO 3x in the last six months and each time,
he was friendly and accommodating. I never got a sense that my calls
were unwelcome. He was always helpful.
