Default IMM 0008 Schedule 1 address history question

To anyone with useful insight:

In the guide to completing the forms
(http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applica...des/EG79.html), for IMM
0008 Schedule 1 #15 it says:
"15. Give a complete address including the street, town or city,
province or region, and country. If there was no street or street
number, explain exactly the location of the house or building. You must
account for every month during the past 10 years. Do not use post
office (P.O.) box addresses."

But on question 15 of IMM 0008 Schedule 1 it says:
"List all addresses where you have lived since your 18th birthday."

Since my 18th birthday was more than 10 years ago (I am 36), which
should I believe? I would vastly prefer to list only the last 10
years, because I lived so many places between 18 and 26 that it's kind
of ridiculous. I can't even establish an address for some of them, and
I definitely can't give a 100% accurate timeline (though I can come
pretty close.) I was even homeless for a few months, and I can't very
well say "I sometimes slept in a van that was usually parked somewhere
on Blake St. or Parker St. that the owner lent me the keys to", can I?

Perhaps it's a silly question, but since I'd like to do everything
right I can't help being stressed about it...

Thanks in advance,

Tyler

Take the lesser of the two and go for 10 years if you wish. Myself I would
try cover as much ground as possible. The better prepared and comprehensive
an application the better the chances of a positive outcome in a shorter
time. It is not a resume that you can fudge to make it look better. Its an
application for a major life change. Think about it. And if there is a point
you cant fill in then explain why. Use a cover letter for that point if
needed.

I *am* thinking about it; hence my question. Phrased differently:
assuming either choice is acceptable, would it be better to provide
less information that is more confirmable (last 10 years) or more
information that is less confirmable (since 18th birthday)?

The fact that it is an application for a major life change is precisely
why I am nit-picking -- as I stated, I want to do everything right.
Naturally I have considered the possibility that the more comprehensive
list will be preferable, yet my question remains. Has anyone else with
actual knowledge or experience any input? I would be most grateful.

Divulging everything can be tough, especially when you can't recall
addresses, or even what you were doing during certain periods. You
might consider writing "travelling" , "staying with friends in
Exampletown" or even "living in a van in Examplecity", whatever
describes the situation best. I had a similar problem and I'm sure
there are many others in the same situation, so it can't be anything
new. I think I used the "travelling" one for when I was actually doing
so and had no fixed abode, and I was never questioned about it.

Think about it this way, you're not a criminal and you've nothing to
hide (I assume), so if you were quizzed about your life history in an
interview, you'd simply explain what you meant by "living in a van in
Examplecity".

Good luck.

Thanks stuart, that does help. I sometimes forget that actual human
beings process this material and that I may very likely get a chance to
explain myself in an interview should there be any questions...I just
want to succeed so badly that I take everything I read very seriously,
perhaps too seriously.

Cheers,

Tyler

You're right to take it very seriously, not least because CIC can be
bewilderingly bureaucratic at times. Make sure you cross all of those
T's and dot all of the I's.

Those two statements are not strictly contradictory. What is
seems to convey is that you need to give your address since 18th
birthday, but the last 10 years must be especially details
(account for each month), while before the last 10 years can be
more general (e.g. you don't have to enlist the summer vacation
before the last 10 years while the summer vacation in the last
10 years you should).

Yes you can. Just explain to the best of your ability. I am sure
the officers will understand if you forget something, as long as
you don't try to hide anything.
