Default IEAust / Washington Accord - Manufacturing Engineer

Hi Everybody. My first Post. Planning on heading to Perth late
next year.

Just wondering if anybody out there has had the same problem as me.

IEAust dont recognise my Irish Manufacturing Engineering Degree.

They say it is "Not Elsewhere Classified" with ASCO code of 2129-79 and
insist on me doing a CDR. What a pain

I have spent some time researching the skills categories and I found
this link on the Australian Government website
http://jobguide.dest.gov.au/

The appropriate link that applies to ASCO Code 212611 is
http://jobguide.thegoodguides.com.au/jobdetails.cfm?jobid3.

Anybody manage to get around this?

Hi ya - I asked to be assessed under 2126-11 and they came back with the
same result for me as in Manufacturing Engineers are coded 2129-79 as we
arent purely mechanical based. Wasnt too much of an issue for me as
Mechanical Engineer wasnt on the MODL list at the time i applied, so i
went with the 2129-79 code for 60pts anyway. I assume you want the 2126-
11 code as its on MODL?

If thats the case you'll have to do a CDR to prove that you are 2126-11
or take the non-MODL 60pts under Washington.

The biggest pain is that I am working as a Mechanical Engineer which is
on the Priority List for Western Oz, and that would get me easy and
quickly. I'm also trying to avoid the CDR as I'm not sure how picky they
are when it comes to assessing. Has anybody done a CDR for Mech Eng. Had
they any problems?

So is your degree accredited by the Institute of Engineers Ireland?

If so it ought to be acceptable for Washington Accord purposes and
IEAUST will recognise it on that basis, although you may not get the
exact ASCO classification you want.

Yes, it is recognised but not as one of the Qualifications on the
Priority List, so it means the State Sponsorship route is closed unless
I do the CDR and convince them that I am actually a Mech Eng.....

I think you will struggle to get the code you want - my degree is in
Electronic Engineering, but my PhD is in mechanical engineering, and
they gave me the NEC 2129-79 ASCO code. Not that this was a problem, as
I wasn't angling for sponsorship or anything, but I was expecting to
receive the ASCO code for an Electronic engineer. If you understand me.

I can give you some pointers for your CDR if you like, though I'm not
sure how to tailor it towards a particular coding.

So when you say you were allocated 2129-79, did you compile a CDR or
just go with the Washington Accord application. Any pointers for the CDR
would be great. Like the level of detail etc.
