Well I went to Canada and I have managed to return. I was extrememly
lucky as my extension letter showed up on the day of the flight. Now I
don't need to worry for a few more months.
However I was talking to the officer at the Vanouver airport about my
predicament and he said that it would have been up to the individual
officer whether I was let through without the extension letter.
If the officer had a bad day or a fight with his wife I could have been
denied admittance because I had inproper documentation. He said he has
seen it before and with the tighter documentation restrictions coming
into place next month he's positive that crossing between Canada and the
U.S will only get harder (and the lines longer).
And as a word of warning to everyone travelling between the two
countries, he said that the Vancouver and Toronto airports were the
hardest on the documentation.
Good luck to everyone else out there and happy holidays
