It's an interview. The officer will ask you questions and he will
expect you to respond. Your spouse will be asked questions and the
officer will expect a response. You and your spouse might be split up
and interviewed separately. He will verify the information you
submitted. If all goes well, you will be approved and you *might* get
an I-551 stamp in your passport. If the background checks are not
completed, you will not be approved and you will have to wait until the
background checks are finished.

The procedure you outlined is correct, but the times may vary greatly
from office to office. Fingerprints don't always happen in a month, and
an interview doesn't always happen in 4-5 months. It can sometimes be a
lot longer.
Ian answered your question about what happens at your interview.

Re: I485 procedure
I am also getting my OPM background check from work. This OPM ground
check looks more detailed because it was over 28 pages. Do you think
this might expedite my process?

I doubt if having a background check done for work purposes will have
any bearing on your USCIS process, no. USCIS conducts their own version
of background checks, and has nothing to do with checks you might get
done via your employer.

Re: I485 procedure
I am going for my conditional permanent residence card (green card) next week.
Make sure you have originals of everything you ask for, and warning it can change day by day.
You should also have evidence of everything that is in both your names, eg wills, bank accounts, rent/mortgage, life insurance.
You will also need AT LEAST three notarized affadavits from people who can testify that your marriage is one of love.
Pictures, pictures and more pictures. Both of you with family especially, and dont be like us (who have no use for pictures0 and forget to take any wedding pictures. We were so happy to finally get married that we forgot the camera!
Good Luck!.

Well... this is simply not true. Affidavits are useful if you have no
other evidence, but by and large they are neither required nor useful.

Donna, I think you have a very skewed vision of the immigration process,
but you shouldn't alarm people.
The requirements haven't changed radically this year, and only in a
couple of places has there been any changes.
Affidavits are NOT required, and neither is love.
We didn't really have any pictures at all. A few of our wedding
ceremony.
Relax, and I hope you have a great interview next week!
