Default I-485 pennding after succesful interview

hi everybody,
I had my interview on Jan 18th this year in NYC- went really good, she
was very satisfied but my fingerprints expied so...you all know the
story. She told me it will take about 6 weeks for me to get my GC.
so I went to renew them on the 24th. 6 weeks pased. and now its almost
time for me to renew my EAD. and another $250!!!
I'm thinking about info pass but - is that gonna help? will that be
just waist of time or at least i will find out something? anybody have
been there done that?
btw- one thing changed since interview- they approved I-130.
anybody has any ideas?

Hey Sobol,

If it is time for you to renew your EAD, I would send the application,
if I were you.

I had my interview in NYC in October 2004, went really well, they also
approved my I-130, but my fingerprints weren't there yet. They also told
me to wait 6 weeks. A year and a half has passed since, and I still
don't have it.

They just transferred my application to California, the reason they gave
me is that they are swamped in NYC and one of the bottlenecks is
precisely the background check. Things are moving for us since our
application was sent to California, and I hope to receive my GC soon,
but you never know.

I hope that what happened to us does not happen to you, but what if your
background check takes them 12 weeks instead of 6, since they are so
busy?
You don't want to risk a chance to lose your right to work, right?

I would send the EAD application and would forget about the 250$

(Maybe I am partial because of my bad experience)

Good luck!

Just wondering what the $250 would be for?

Yes, I think sobol is wrong about that, the fee for the i765 is one
hundred something, no 250

Hi Rene!
I sent a message about my EAD, don't know if you remember me (I was
asking how long after biometrics was I suppose to receive my card), I
finally received it 12 days after my appointment for biometrics. And you
were right, the online status is not reliable: I received my card in the
mail, and they still didn't change the online status.

I just realized the OP is probably adding in a $70 biometrics fee for
the EAD renewal, which isn't necessary. No fee for EAD biometrics.

Ohh, very good!! Congratulations!

$180 for application and $70 for biometrics- or maybe i don't need that
extra $70 since i had my fingerprints just done 2 months ago for I-485.

Right. The $70 fee is for the AOS fingerprints. There is no fee for
the EAD biometrics.

Hi Sobol

The biometrics for the I765 have nothing to do with the
fingerprints for I485.

For the employment card application, they capture your photo, your
signature and some fingerprints (but only for one finger, not for all as
in the I485), to put all that in your card. The appointment letter is
also different, with the receipt number corresponding to your I765
application and with a different code.

And you don't need to include the fingerprints fee with your I765
application.

BTW, it also happened to me that the FBI returned my fingerprints to
them almost immediately...but they didn't do any further processing
(rest of the background checking or whatever), just sat in my
application for a year and a half and then transferred it to California.

Hope you are luckier!
