Default I-134 Affadvit of Support Q's

Situation: Applying for K1 visa for Colombian fiance.
Income issues: I'm told consulate will want to see 3 years worth of tax
returns.
Minimum income guideline: $16,500 (for single person like myself)
TY 2006: ~ 45-50k (could be more) OK (to be filed in January)
TY 2005: $18,500 OK (after I recently adjusted it...at risk of audit, mind
you)
TY 2004: $15,000 Not OK (will be staring the interviewer in the face)

I am more or less self-employeed. Although I do have my own company (a full
fledged corporation, for which I am an employee...I get W-2s). But I also
do a lot of independent work (for which I get 1099s).

I avoided also adjusting my income for 2004 because I didn't want to arouse
an audit (it's bad enough that I had to submit an adjusted return for 2005).

Are they generally willing to overlook an old return if a more recent return
shows significantly more income?

I'd rather not go the route of using a sponsor for the income portion.

Are there other ways of showing adequate income?

Yes. It's the current income that counts.

Best Wishes,
Rene

My husband has his own company - his tax return showed a $8,500 profit
(we have a fantastic accountant!) so we got a co-sponsor.
At the interview, we took his Board of Equalization tax returns for the
last 2 years and the interviewer conceded hubby makes enough money to
support both of us and took the co-sponsor off the application.
