I hadnt noticed any dropoff in the use of Hydro as a term where I live.
As others have said, "Hydro" is Electricity, but it is worth noting that
in some municipalitys Hydro is supplied by the local "Utilities"
company, so your Hydro bill may also include charges for water supply
and water heater rental.
On a side note my power went out this morning at 5am, on a night it
touched under -30C. Still -25C now and no power at home yet, so no
furnace and no hot water. Just as well we have a wood stove, it doest
pay to live out in the country and be too reliant on just electricity,
as it supplies all your water (from the well) as well as running the
blower fan and oil pump on the heating furnace. I have a generator as
back up, but at -30C this morning I wasnt about to lug it outside and
try and get it to start just to run the water pump for a shower.
Oh well, I'm told it will be back on soon, I am just glad I am not on
the poor Hydro crew out there freezing there asses of to get it working.
Hats off to them.
