Husband travels with wife on Student Visa
Okay, can anyone shed some light on options for the spouse when travelling
with the applicant of a student visa?
What do I mean, exactly?
Well, my wife and I (both UK citizens) are considering selling our house to
raise funds to support us while my wife studies Certificate III Hairdressing
in Melbourne. I, the husband, will be going along with her while she
studies. I realise I am restricted to only being able to work 20 hours a
week and only having the option to study 3 months myself, while my wife
studies full time on her course.
However, is it possible for me to apply for my own student visa while I am
over in Melbourne on my wife's student visa? Also, is it possible for me to
apply for a temporary visa while there?
Last of all, please bear with me... Is it possible to apply for the ENS
while I am there on my wife's visa, if I should find an employer who is
willing to sponsor me?
If the answer is no,bo, no, then is it possible for a husband and wife to
apply for separate visa classes at the same time, allowing say, both to
study full time, or one to study and one to work full time?
Any advice on this matter would be most gratefully recieved.
Kind regards,
Roy

Re: Husband travels with wife on Student Visa
Hi Roy,
All these things are possible. A spouse can be granted a student visa as a
dependent, can apply for other visas, or obtain a student visa in their own
right. Going direct from a student visa to an ENS might be problematic -
you may need to go through a 457 first.
Cheers

Re: Husband travels with wife on Student Visa
Many thanks for that, George. Very useful information.
Out of interest, do you assist with the application of student visas or know
of any agents that do?

Roy

Hi Roy,
At present I am
doing exactly what you plan to do, I start my cert III in hairdressing
in Brisbane on the 23/3/04, my husband and 2 kids are coming with me,
once we are there we will both need to apply for the right to work 20
hours and if my hubby decides to study over the 3 months he will apply
for his own student visa, otherwise hope that he can get sponsorship and
if all else fails then i will do the 2 year course then apply for
residency. The forms are pretty straightforward, we completed them all
by ourselves without an agent, we got our medicals last week and all the
documents have now been sent to London immi. Hopefully I hear some good
news soon.

Re: Husband travels with wife on Student Visa
Hiya Lisa,
Thanks for that. Yes, it sounds like you are doing exactly what my wife and
I are! My wife intends to study at the Biba Academy in Melbourne
(Certificate III), which only lasts 12 months. I don't think that will her
allow to be exempt from the required work experience as I don't think she
would meet the 2 year study rule when applying for PR afterwards.
It's more likely that, after the course, my wife will apply to work there
and eventually go for eith ENS or PR after gaining the required. In the
meantime, I will either be applying to study for a diploma or try got the
temporary visa that will allow me to work.
Good luck,
Roy

Hi lisa
We are looking into going to australia, and its so confusing at mo..
I am 30, married with two children. Looking into the sponsored route by
employment, but its so hard finding a salon to do that..
I have been qualified in hairdressing for over 14 years, with my city
and guilds levelII and a salon diploma,I have got the experience but
because at the moment Im doing mobile work I dont know if thats good
enough.. Any advice?
we did look at going back to college for my salon management but it
seemed it would be about £3,000 to do that..
Any advice
