How do I get accurate status on my N400 application?
So I've called the National Service Center, I've checked my Status
On-line, I've gone to my local center (San Francisco), they told me it
was still with the California Service Center and they gave me a
'California service center fax inquiry sheet', as per instructions,
I've faxed the first number, waited 10 business days, faxed the second
number, waited 5 business days, faxed the third number, waited 3
business days and I have not heard anything.
All I know is the canned response that you get on the web site and
from calling:
'Your N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was received on April 25,
2003. We mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is
taking between 360 and 360 days for us to process this kind of case.
We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.'
I know I only filed 6 months or so ago (fingerprinted in June) but I
want to be proactive and make sure my application is not gathering
dust somewhere.
Apart from what I have done above does anybody know what else I might
do to get up to date and accurate information about my N400
application and ensure that it is progressing?
Also I have seen various Just In Time (JIT) Reports (indicating the
application dates that are currently being processed) posted but I
cannot find an up to date one on N400 applications for the California
Service Center, anybody got a link?
Cheers,
Paddy Irish Man.

Re: How do I get accurate status on my N400 application?
First of all, if you get any response from the fax request
please post the number.
Second, the status on bcis website does not seem be
updated ever (I plugged in numbers, got to somebody's
case in 1999, and it says exactly the same thing as yours)
And what is the "JIT" reports, you mean just BCIS reports?
If so then will not show the N400 form because it is done
in the local service centers. Some info I found about progress
in the local service centers is here: http://shusterman.com/aos4.html
but it does not give any info as how "fresh" that info is.
I applied almost at the same time as you, and also trying
to be "proactive" so if you come up with more ways
to do it be sure to post

- The JIT reports give a list of the various applications and the date
that they are currently processing, a lot of the attorney websites
post them, check out: http://www.bakerlawcorp.com/news/jit.html#ca.
But I cant find one that includes N400s.

- looks like we applied on exactly the same day!
- How did you get the information about when the FBI checked your
prints?

Re: How do I get accurate status on my N400 application?
You know cant seem to find the number, but I originally founds
it in the posts...
On the question why N400 does not appear in the JIT reports
see my previous post.
From what I hear the fingerprints checked very quickly, (I did the
electronic scan) the problem is the "name check" step. Rumor says
that if you have a common name "joe smith" than it would take longer.
(on the other hand I have an uncommon name, and
cant say that it moves any faster).
I have no clue how to check the "progress" of the name check.
and for actual jit reports I prefer www.murthy.com, more readable

Re: How do I get accurate status on my N400 application?
Most attorneys will use AILA compiled data.
You can find it at www.aila.org -> advocacy center ->
processing time reports
http://www.aila.org/contentViewer.aspx?bc=10,2921
Your specific office will be under "DHS Local Office Processing Times".

Re: How do I get accurate status on my N400 application?
Thanks Suiram,
I have seen this one before. I was hoping to see something similar to
what they have on the processing reports where, instead of just saying
270 days or 365 days or whatever it might be, they explicitly tell you
the date of the application they are currently processing.
Cheers.

Re: How do I get accurate status on my N400 application?
Ok I think I located the phone numbers for FBI:
www.immihelp.com/gc/aos/fingerprints.html
Now they do give status on fingerprints,
but how about the name check and how
to find out that the local office actually got the
report (as opposed to lost it).
