Default Hotels in Istanbul?

Hello

I'm trying to get some accommodation booked up for the world's
greatest musical event* which is taking place in Istanbul in May.

There's an abundance of places in the city, so I thought I'd ask here
to see if anyone has had a good experience of any particular hotel.

I won't have a great deal of money to spend, maybe up to about 40
Euros/USD per night.

Many thanks

(*You have to ask? The Eurovision Song Contest of course! :)

In your price range I would highly recommend Hotel Antique, located in the
Sultanahmet area (5 minute walk to Blue Mosque). We stayed there last June and
found it to be a nice, comfortable, and clean hotel with a good (albeit light)
free breakfast each morning. The man working at the front desk all the time was
very friendly and helpful as well.

Be careful, as there are several hotels in Istanbul called "Hotel Antique,"
most of which are more expensive. Here's the contact info for the one I'm
talking about:

K. Ayasofya Caddesi Ogul Sok. No: 17
Tel: +90-212-516 49 36 / 516 09 97
Fax: + 90-212-517 63 70
Email:

While I'm at it, I'd also highly recommend a couple restaurants very close to
the hotel. One is Doy-Doy and the other is Sukru Nun Yeri. Both are kebab
houses, so the menus are fairly limited, but the food was fantastic (and
extremely cheap). Sukru Nun Yeri was our favorite because it's this tiny little
place with tables on the sidewalk. The servers were all very friendly and
helpful and there was a guy with a shop next door who was also friendly.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you very much for that suggestion. I had a look at the website
and it looked very reasonable. Obviously others have had a good
impression of it as well because it's booked up for that weekend! But
thanks for the suggestion - and for the tips about where to eat as
well.

Right now I'm staying at the Pension Side (http://www.sidehotel.com/). It's
right behind the Aya Sofia and Blue Mosque, $30/night for single with
private bathroom. Very very clean, nice breakfast, cute rooms, excellent
location. No complaints really (except they don't have internet access so I
have to walk up the street to get my work done!)

I stayed at the Ambassador Hotel and liked it a lot:

It may be more than $40/night in May... looks like $58. But, it does
have a super location, and a great included breakfast on the terrace
with an amazing view.

Thanks to everyone for their advice, on and offline. Much
appreciated. I've got a couple to try now.
