Default Help with visa refusal

Hello everyone.

I recently had my interview at the American Embassy in London for a 6
month visitor's visa and was unfortunately refused under section 214 b.

I initially intended to travel under the visa waiver scheme but as i
have a minor criminal conviction from some 13 years ago i thought i
should go through the correct proceedures.

The problem that i have (as far as i can see it) is that i'm not
currently employed and havn't been for a number of years as i'm classed
as a "carer" for my disabled mother and receive state benefit for this
duty.On the application form i stated this and brought my carers
allowance book as well as other documents such as rent book & bank
statement (with over £1,000 in).

After reading the refusal letter i was given i understand that as far as
the consulate are concerned i did not show enough strong ties to the UK
and that i consequently might not return to these shores. This is
ridiculous as far as i'm concerned as i am officially paid from my
government to cary out this duty and i stated i would only be travelling
to the states for a 2 weeks holiday. Any longer would be impossible
because of my responsibilities.Basically my mother depends on me in
order to live a normal a life as possible.

I now realize i should have paid more attention to this part of my
application and did not understand the importance of showing strong
enough ties to my country (i was more concerned about being turned down
because of my past conviction). I should have produced far more
documentation about my caring responsibilities which i could easily get
from many different government / health agencies.

What i would like to know is: How long do i have to wait before i can
make another visa application? and more importantly, would more detailed
documentation help with any future application?

If being employed is a priority as far as a successful application goes
then i could quite easily take up a part-time job and continue caring
for my mother. Would this help matters or am i wasting my time and money
pursuing this?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
