Default H1B Visa Transfer from University to Private Non-Academic Company

Hi all,

Somebody is working in the university as a postdoc with an H1B Visa.
Before his visa expires, he gets a job offer from a private non-
academic company. Can he transfer his H1B visa to be used for woking
in this company?

Kind replies are appreciated.

Thanks,
KIS

Yes, but the transfer would be subject to the H1 quota. The company would have
to apply April 1 for a start date of Oct. 1.
