Default H1 B visa renewal

Hi,
Guess this may have already been answered somewhere else. But here is my
question.
Currently full time employed at Employer A on an H1B which expires Dec 2006.
Have applied to transfer to Employer B. When can I legally leave Employer A
and join employer B, is it once the application has been submitted and
received or once the final approval has been received. Also would Employer B
contact employer A during the transfer process or not. Finally when the H1b
petition from Employer B gets approved, would the start date be in the end
of the first petition that is Jan 1st 2007 or whatever the date was
requested when the transfer application was filed. Please let me know so
that I can plan the next course of action at Employer A.
Thanks
Sandeep

You can start working for company B as soon as you receive the Notice of
Receipt from CIS. Be aware that, should your transfer application be
denied, you will be out of H-1 status.

I am not sure of the answer to your second question. I believe you get
the start date you ask for.
