Default Guidence required

Hi,
I have been in Darwin, NT with sub class 457 visa for a year. I would
like to know whether I have any benefits of 457 visa for applying
skilled independent visa. In addition, please inform me whether this
temporary visa period would be taken into account for citizenship or
not?

Hi Mate,

Law recently changed to allow time in the country on temp visa's to go
against the total time required (4 years) for eventual citizenship, however
you do need to have at least one year on a PR visa in this 4 year cycle.

Afraid I wouldn't know on your other Q.

Cheers

If you have worked in Australia legally in an occupation closely related
to your nominated skill (in your Skill Independent PR application) for
one year out of the last four years, you will get another 10 points
towards your Point Score Test. The current passing mark for
Skill-Independent visa is 120 points.

Dear HK,

You'd certainly be able to claim your period on a 457 for PR purposes
and with 12 months work experience in Australia in an occupation
closely related to your assessed occupation you should also get 10
points for that too, but best if you either use an agent or try
working our your points from the DIAC website.

Cheers,

Hi George,

I'm a New Zealand citizen and thus need no paperwork to be able to live and
work in Australia; still - what if I resided in Australia for a couple of
years, before formally applying for permanent residence? would those years
count against the 4-year requirement for citizenship, once I've acquired my
PR status?

Cheers,
JC
