Default green card holder - traveling question

Hello
So we had our AOS interview last thursday and I got approved
I'd like to ask if I can travel to Mexico and Canada just on my green
card even though as a citizen of Slovak Republic I am required to have
visa for these countries.
What about other countries where US citizen don't need visa but
Slovaks do ?
thanks
Frantisek

Hi:

It is up to the other country. You have to ask them.

Canada: GC holders don't need visas
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.html
Mexico: Not sure. It used to be you didn't need one, then I think they
changed it so you did, then perhaps they changed it back. What appeared to
be the official website appeared to be under construction (even my
non-existent Spanish could decypher that!).

Andy.

You should ask the nearest Mexican and Canadian consulates.

Unfortunately, I wasn't too impress. All of the Mexican consulate web
sites, except San Jose CA, told me that Russian green card holders
needed a visa. Apparently the law changed right after 9-11 and then
changed back. The change back, to not being required, apparently isn't
well documented. I even asked AA and Mexicana's customer service and was
told one was needed. My wife did not get one, and had no problem flying
to Cancun. To be safe, we had the consulate issue her a tourist card,
while mine was obtained from the airport.
