Default Greek Islands ocean swimming in May/June

I would like to visit the Sporades and Northern Aegean islands in the
shoulder season (May or June), but I want to be sure that I can swim.
Will the water be too cold then? Should I go in the fall instead? When
do the tourist hordes go home? September? October?

Thank you for your replies.

May or June ? Expect chilly water.
In September it's perfect, but if you want to avoid hordes of tourists pick a less popular
island - the furthest from Athens, the better. If you don't mind traveling a little more
to reach them - maybe taking a domestic flight from Athens and then a boat - they are
really worth the extra effort.

It's fine then. Not as warm as the sea of Florida in May (for one
comparison), certainly, but warm enough. That is, once you're in the
water, you don't feel it's so chilly you can't stay in. It can be
slightly chilly when you first dip in, but that passes. FWIW, I know
people who find it too cold in September as well- they must only like
very warm water.

No, but it will still be cooler than in July/August. The weather will be
hot already.

Same weather as in June, but the water is probably warmer. The staff in
tourist facilities will be more exhausted.

About September, but October is still shoulder season, in some places even
November.

Bit chilly maybe, but not too cold. I just returned from Cyprus and the
water was okay for swimming. You might want to avoid going there around the
time of the Olympics, though.

It will definetely be warmer in fall, that's right.

September should be fine - been to Corfu once in Sep. and there wasn't to
many tourists. Ocotber could already mean bad/cooler weather.
