Default ? Grant letter rcvd but needs to change passport

Hello again!

I got my grant letter a few weeks back and we sent our passports for
visa stamping but the embassy sent it back and they required me to
have my passport replaced --- they found a "tear" that can make my
passport to look like as if it was tampered...

replacing my passport will mean a new passport number...
Question # 1 DO I STILL NEED TO INFORM DIMIA ABOUT THE NEW PASSPORT#
(even if i have already received my grant letter)?

Question #2 WILL IT BE DIMIA'S RESPONSIBILITY TO INFORM HAS or the
STATE/TERRITORY HEALTH AUTHORITY (i was asked to fill up the
healthundertaking form)?

Question #3 CAN I INFORM DIMIA BY EMAIL? WE'RE MOVING TO AUSTRALIA ON
OCT 1ST.

Thanks! Replies much appreciated...

As far as Question #1 goes, yes, you will need to inform DIMIA (assuming
you haven't gotten the sticker in your passport yet). They 'link' your
visa number to your passport number, and they also print your passport
number on the visa sticker, to help discourage fraud.

Question #2: No idea.

Question #3: I would assume so, but it might be wise to send a fax as
well. If I understand the situation correctly, you haven't actually
received had your visas evidenced yet - you should probably send a cover
letter explaining the situation when you send your passports to the
Consulate, just to try & avoid any delays. I'm not sure how long it
would take for DIMIA to pass the information about the new passport
number on to your local Consulate/High Commission - you might be cutting
it a bit close with a 1st October departure date!

1. Yes you should tell them
2. Your responsibility is to follow your health undertaking to
the letter.
3. It's not clear in cases like this. Try emailing your case officer.
Either way, you need to get a new passport and a visa stamp fairly
quickly if you want to move on 1 Oct. Make sure the old passport is
cancelled and returned to you.

Thanks <saraliz> and <JAJ> for the replies...

I now have my new passport and I already sent an email yesterday to my
CO and she replied just now telling me that I do not need to send Form
1022, my email to her is enough...

Now, on to "visa evidencing"...wish me luck!

So you now have a new passport, but does it have the visa stamp in it?
It sounded like they returned the old one to you from DIMIA without a
visa stamp, in which case you will need to send them the new one to get
it stamped. Just having a grant letter is not enough, I'm sure.
