getting married in the UK
hi,
i posted earlier regarding the differences between fiance visa and
marriage visas.
we have decided to get married and would like some advise on the
process, what needs to be done, and timescales etc.
my boyfriend is a US citizen and i am a UK citizen.
we have been having a LDR for two years and this is the first time we
have met.
he is currently in the UK on a visit visa and leaves this thursday. he
is hopeing to return to the UK in two months so that we can get married
in church...(although i am not sure if two months is enough time to sort
out a big church wedding! haha)
when he returns to the US on thursday he is going to start fileing the
required paperwork...could someone point me in the direction of where to
get this paperwork...is it available online? he is also going to prepare
for his return visit and needs to sort a marriage visa...this doesnt
take 6 months does it?
do we need to contact anyone here in the UK? if so...who?
after the wedding i dont think i can go to the US until the visa is
completed, but, are we still able to get married in two month, here? or
do we have to wait until a visa is done and dusted? i realise that
getting married here doesnt automatically entitle me entry into the US
and that a lot of paperwork and waiting is involved...i am prepared to
wait here until everything is completed...
we need to find out the process from start to finish so that we get
everything right first time...if you realised what we have been through
to get this far you will understand why  !! so lots and lots of
good advise is needed please!

Do you mean paperwork for getting a marriage visa for the UK? If you
mean paperwork for a visa for you, that can't happen until after you get
married. Your train of thought is difficult to follow... you can not get
good advice if you are not specific.
If you don't mind a personal observation, the haste with which you are
wanting to marry and the ensuing confusion regarding the order and
preparation of things, seems to demonstrate that you should take a step
back and more carefully consider your options. Marriage is difficult
enough without throwing immigration into the mix.
As I indicated in an earlier post, getting things right the first time
is no guarantee of a smooth process.

If you want to marry in the UK, you'll need a UK fiancee visa, that'll
take a few weeks by mail, or a few hours at the consulate if you can go
to the consulate still...you'll be able to google UK fiance visa as well
as I can to get the link for the info and forms needed.

Once he returns to the USA, but you intend to get married on his next
visit to the UK, the *only* paperwork he can start filing is for his own
visa on which to get married in the UK. He won't be able to start
filing any of your visa paperwork to come to the USA, until *after* you
are married.
Hope that helps.

Apparently, the paperwork is interchangeable. She doesn't seem concerned
at all that it's the *right* paperwork... she seems concerned only that
"whatever paperwork is needed" gets done. Her visa... his visa... it
seems to be all the same - go figure!

are you like this with everyone? or did you get out of the wrong side
this morning?
i came here for advise and it seems to me, from reading your replies to
myself and others, that you simply like putting a downer on things!
ok, i know it is a long and drawn out process and obviously a process
that needs good advise to help complete correctly! i have been from
link to link looking for answers and seem to fall on contradiction
whereever i go...go figure!!
all i was asking was some help with the way and order things are
carried out! mybe i should have just posted 'im getting married to a US
citizen in the UK and need advise' and then waited for the questions to
roll in, but i tryed to give as much information as i could and end up
getting you!
of course i am concerned it is the right paperwork! why else would i
ask??
i also know that he cannot file any paperwork which i need to
file...this to me seems OBVIOUS!
of course i am concerned that the right paperwork is filed...where is
the point in fileing the wrong papework?? this to me would be time
wasting and stupid!
thanks to everyone elses replies! helpful!!

well that's been answered a few times already....and as processes go,
the easiest one out there, simply google "UK visa, fiance" and you'll
get your answer on how to file, what to file and where to file, all from
the UK visa site.
