Gatwick, Stansted or Heathrow for connection to Edinburgh?
Which airport is the easiest to get to from central London and get through
for flying to Edinburgh? Easyjet flies from both Gatwick and Stansted and
British Midland and British Airways fly from Heathrow.
Thanks in advance.

Depends on which side of town you are on. Heathrow is probably the easiest
because of the number of trains that go there, Gatwick is a breeze from
Victoria, and Stansted probably third because it is smaller and harder to
get to due to the smaller number of trains going there.
London City airport is a real pain in the arse if you are on the west side
of town, but I don't think they fly to Edinburgh from there anyway.

Your subject says "connection" but you ask "from central London".
Which is it?
As of Monday 27th October, British Airways fly London City to
Edinburgh. Generally four flights a day each way. For convenience,
this is the best option.
Do check prices on www.BA.com as in my past experience they compete on
price with the so-called 'low cost' carriers.
I find London City has the shortest journey time and cheapest cab fare
from central London as it's the closest airport t to central London.
See http://www.lcy.co.uk/ for airport information.
Cheers,
Jason.

If by "they" you mean the airport, I'm afraid you're wrong.
Until Saturday, it's ScotAirways and Flybe.
From Monday 27th, it's ScotAirways and BA.
Cheers,
Jason.

British European, British Airways and Scot Airways all fly from London
City airport to Edinburgh. There's a flight every hour or so
throughout the day. http://www.londoncityairport.com
London City is probably the most convenient if you're in the east of
London or the Docklands financial district.

Sorry, substitute "flight" for "connection." I checked BA prices and the
cost for a return ticket is about 1/3 the cost of a one-way ticket. Very
interesting.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I forgot to mention, I checked the low-cost carriers and last week one of
them, either easyJet or Ryan, had free flights (just the cost of taxes) to
Edinburgh but that only lasted for a day. Guess it's tough to make money
when you don't charge for tickets.

Must have been EasyJet then, because Ryanair doesn't fly to Edinburgh
from anywhere in England.

Actually its not. Ryanair is one of the most profitable, if not THE
most profitable carrier in Europe. Their business model is based
around getting people on the plane, not specifically getting them to
pay to be there. The revenue from ticket sales is almost incidental to
their income streams

Just curious, what are Ryanair's revenue streams? Not knowing anything about
them, I just imagined that if they were an airline, they made money from
selling tickets.
