Default Found a sponsor

Hi all,

I have had a phone interview and have been told my offer of employment
is in the post and should be with me soon. Yay.

Hopefully, when the paper work comes through this will be for a 457
visa. They did say that they spoke to the government before
interviewing me and they had said it would be fine, so I'm hoping this
is what they are doing, and that they won't try to put me through on a
418 (educational) visa which if I am reading it right could never be
made a PR.

Yay, I have so much to do. Can anyone tell me, do I get the meds/police
checks done and then send everything in together?

Also, has anyone gone for this visa recently? Was it easy? how long
did it take?

We found a buyer for our house 3 weeks ago too, so everything is
looking good.

Why do they not want to sponsor you for a permanent migration visa? Are
you aware of all the potential risks and problems with a 457 visa?

Because my qualifications are enough to get me a temp visa, but not a
perminant visa until I have been working for 2 years.
I realise there are great advantages PR, but I can't get it, so this is
my only option.

I was going this route a while ago, but there are so many risks and
pitfalls I decided to go the 136 route instead. I didn't want the
feeling of being tied to one employer. If you leave they have to pay for
your passage home and many of them will retain funds to do so, plus the
employer has to meet criteria, and most of them tend to back off when
they realise what is involved in it, however many in regional australia
will sponsor as they need to fill skills shortages. I went out there
last month to have a look around and spoke to some companies on my
travels. When I e-mailed the agent and said I had changed my mind and
decided to do skilled independent he was relieved too. Also you can't
buy property without permission from the foreign investment board
without PR (so I believe). I'm no expert like some of the BE members,
but I am glad we left the 457 alone. At the end of the day the 136 takes
longer but there are far more long term benefits. If you've got a
positive skills assessment I would think very carefully (just my
opinion) but whatever you decide I wish you all the very best of luck.

Thanks very much. I would have prefered to do just that, but as I said,
that isn't an option for me. TR will have to do.
The job is in Sydney too, which wouldn't have been my first choice, I
love Adelaide, but once I'm there I can 'network' and look around for
other jobs.
I will see what they are saying about flights etc when the offer comes
in in black and white.
I wasn't actually looking to move over so quick, but if i didn't take
this job I might not get another opertunity and would always regret it.

If you don't mind me asking PB, in what field is your new job?

We are in the same position as you - sponsorship is our only option!

officer on the list.
