Default Form DC-2000 - Don't need affidavit of support?

Dear all,

Does anybody know how much money I would need to prove I wouldn't be a
public charge (without using an affidavit of support)? I have been saving
up for a few years, and have got a good one years salary worth of money in
my piggy bank. Do you think this would be enough?

On the form DC-2000 it says :
An applicant for a fiancé(e), Kii or V visa may generally satisfy the
requirement of the law by the presentation of documentary evidence
establishing that:

1.. the applicant has, or will have in the U.S. personal funds sufficient
to provide support for the applicant and dependent family members, if any,
or sufficient to provide support until suitable employment is located;
2.. the applicant has arranged employment in the U.S. that will provide an
adequate income for the applicant and dependent family members;
3.. relatives or friends in the U.S. will assure the applicant's support;
or
4.. a combination of the above circumstances
I have no kids so I think I *may* satisfy point 1. Has anyone actually
not used an affidavit of support and successfully got their visa? My
fiancee is but a poor student so she has only limited funds.

thanks for your help!!

Mark

ps. I am new to this news group.. if you would like I can post a timeline
and anything else you might need/want to know. Right now I am on the
applying to the London embassy stage.

That depends. How much is "one year's salary"?

If you filed the affidavit of support, your assets (like this money)
would only be counted at 1/5 of the value.
So, if you have 50,000 it would count for $10000 toward the income
requirement.

If you had sufficient funds, then why wouldn't you simply file the
affidavit of support?
