Default Florence on Christmas

Hi there,

I am planning to be in Florence on Christmas Eve and Christmas (Dec
24th and Dec 25th). I heard that the place is completely dead, buses
and trains stop operating, museums and tourist sites are closed, shops
and restaurants are also closed.
* Is this true?
* Is there anything that can be done in Florence on these 2 days?
* Is the picture different on Dec 24th and Dec 25th?
* Is it better to be in Rome than Florence on Dec 25th?

Thanks in advance,
Abhinav

Default Re: Florence on Christmas

Last time I spent Christmas in Florence it was bitterly cold and damn
near everything was closed. Finally I got pizza in a rackety teen
hangout near the Duomo. I was fleeing a large Italian family gathering
in Rome. Big mistake; I should have just hidden from family somewhere
in Rome....at least Romans don't all close everything down..and it is
generally warmer. bill
